In 2007, Geno Rodriguez returned to Panuco, Mexico to visit family. Economic times were hard, and he was horrified to learn that unwanted children were being abandoned, the tiny bodies of newborns even found floating in the Tampico River. God called and Geno answered. With the assistance of friends in Florida and Alabama, including a small contingent of Auburn football players from the 1980s, men began taking week-long vacations to build an orphanage for these precious but unwanted children.
Work was completed the following year, but this small group of Christ followers were unable to convince an outside organization to take over the operation. This group of eight husbands and wives, experienced in building and construction, took a giant leap of faith and decided to run the orphanage themselves. Through obedience, God provided, and Mexico Orphan Mission (MOM), a 501(c)(3), created Casa Hogar, a home that cares and provides for orphans and continues today to change the lives of the “least of these.”
